IBM Futures Schemes
You might be uncertain about whether to start work, complete an apprenticeship or go to university, if that's you and you are unsure of what to do next, take a look at our IBM Futures Scheme. The scheme offers you an invaluable opportunity to work with a world-leading company for 12-months, broadening your horizons and giving you a head start in your career.
You’ll be deployed onto a challenging work placement, where you’ll support and learn from experienced professionals across IBM. That could be in any area across the company. Then, at the end of the placement, it’s in your hands. If you would like to consider IBM as a long-term career then you could apply for our Apprenticeship scheme, or you could go off to university and consider IBM’s Undergraduate and Graduate opportunities in a few years time.
During your year you’ll have a great support network. For the day-to-day things, you’ll have a Task Manager who’ll help you with new tasks, manage your workload and give you the opportunity to get involved. You’ll also have an Early Professional Manager looking after your ongoing development and your future career plans.
Apprenticeships have changed. IBM has changed. It's not all about bits & bytes, cloud and cognitive. Did you know you can now achieve a management accountant CIMA qualification as an IBM Apprentice? Or become an HR Consultant? Or even become a graduate with a degree qualification? All through the apprenticeship route. Apprenticeships at IBM are all about picking up skills for the workplace and embarking on a long, and successful career. We have your professional development in mind from the day you join us as a permanent employee. You will get lots of exposure and an experience you simply can't get anywhere else. In addition to the day job there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in social activities and volunteering with other Apprentices, Students and Graduates.
But don't take our word for it.....let our Apprentices tell you!
Apprenticeship Training and Development
As an IBM Apprentice, you have a fantastic support network. Every Apprentice gets a dedicated Early Professional Manager to support you through your ongoing development. For day-to-day things, you have a task manager - they will help allocate you work and enable you to get involved in real client projects.
Your training starts from day 1. Induction leads straight into your first training courses, introducing you to personal and professional skills from the outset. After two weeks, we enable you to join real projects, either at IBM locations or client premises.
IBM is now a registered provider of apprenticeship training to its own staff. We deliver all of the education you need to complete your qualification if you are on any of the following pathways: Junior Management Consultant, Associate Project Manager, IT Technical Salesperson, Infrastructure Technician, Software Developer, Software Tester.
For other apprenticeship pathways we partner with some of the leading training providers and Universities in the UK. Our degree apprentices are studying with the likes of Queen Mary University of London, Exeter, Manchester Metropolitan, Open University and Pearson College.
Learning patterns will vary depending on the pathway and training provider but rest assured you will be fully supported by IBM to achieve your education alongside carrying out a proper job with real clients.
What we look for
Energy, creativity and passion are really important to us. We also work in teams all the time, so you need to be someone who’ll thrive in that kind of environment – a great communicator and someone with the ability to lead others. There are other characteristics we look for, too. We call them competencies - think about whether, and how, you can demonstrate them during our application process. We look for eight specific competencies during our Application Process: Adaptability, Communication, Client Focus, Creative Problem Solving, Drive, Teamwork, Passion for IBM and Taking Ownership.
