IBM Business Consultants work with our clients to address new and often technology-enabled opportunities, as well as solve specific business problems. This may involve working through all or any part of the project lifecycle; understanding the client’s requirements and analysing the business context; advising them on best practice or recommended strategy; or designing and delivering solutions.

During your first 2 years, you’ll move between different assignments, working with a variety of blue-chip clients. You may be designing and building innovative customer experiences, using leading edge methods to help plan, solution and execute client work, or analyzing business requirements and configuring functional software in the next generation of applications; making a difference to our clients and to the world.

Business consulting is varied: the path you take and the velocity of your progression will be largely in your hands!

Business Specialist

As a Business Specialist, your role will focus on the commercial side of our business - delivering value to our clients and increasing revenue. Throughout these different projects your responsibilities could include Project Management, Commercial/Service Management, Business Development, Bid Management, Sales, Business Consultant and Operational Support.

Sales Specialist

Our sales people are lucky enough to sell some of the world's most innovative IT solutions. And they also get to interact with clients in a wide array of fields. There are two streams of sales roles on the graduate scheme; those that are out in the field and those that are office based.

Technical Solutions Specialist

Our specialists develop proof of concepts, design, develop, build, test and implement systems to solve our clients' business and IT problems. As a hands-on professional you’ll develop an in-depth understanding of our products, offerings and services.

What you will need to apply:

  • Have a keen interest in technology and be prepared to develop your knowledge to fully understand technical products and solutions
  • Have excellent communication skills and be able to relate technical concepts to non-technical people

Front End Developer

Front-end development collaborates with the team to generate ideas and make design concepts tangible. Tools of the trade include web and mobile programming skills and synthesis.

Design Researcher

Software Developer

Our software engineers are responsible for the complete life cycle of a software product – from research and design, to implementation and testing, through training and support. As a software engineer you will work at the heart of IBM's software innovation and you could play a key role in many world-shaping, cutting-edge technologies.

Software Consulting

We are a small team of Global technical experts who specialise in helping companies get the most of their Smarter Planet Software, ranging from Cloud, Mobile to Social Business and Business Analytics. Our knowledge is unrivalled to the extent our clients include IBM’s own Consulting Services divisions to whom we sub-contract our services.

What you will need to apply:

  • Be looking to achieve (or already have) a 2:1 honours for most roles we need candidates with computer science, maths, engineering and science degrees or similar but other roles would be fine for any degree so long as the person can demonstrate the following skills
  • A confident team player
  • Excellent communication skills. Strong technical aptitude and passion to help our clients

Cyber Security Specialist

You will be helping our clients analyse the problem, working with other parts of IBM, understanding the security architecture, and assist to implement and manage new security systems and security transformation programmes.

What you will need to apply:

  • Be looking to achieve (or already have) a 2:1 honours degree relevant in cyber systems, software or information security, engineering, maths or computer science
  • You must be a ‘people person’, well-rounded and happy to take on new challenges
  • Have a flexible attitude to your working patterns (you’ll often need to work at different client sites and IBM offices across the UK)
  • Can-do attitude and willingness to learn

Offering Management

Offering Management owns IBM’s point-of-view on a market space, defining where IBM will play and how it will differentiate itself. Offering Managers are responsible for developing end-to-end offering business plans, leading execution of those plans and they are held accountable for market results (e.g. revenue, profit, new customer acquisition, customer satisfaction etc.)

  • Be willing to work in Hursley, Hampshire or Cambridge
  • Have a wide range of business, IT, analytical and leadership skills

Strategic Analytics Consultant

As a Strategic Analytics Consultant, you can expect to work on projects providing specialist analytics or business modelling support. Projects can last anything from a few weeks to over a year, and can be based at a client site, an IBM location or a combination of both. We work at the interface of consulting and analytics; using data to derive insight for our clients, and helping to explain technical concepts using strong communication skills and creative visualisation.

We usually work as part of a small team – either with other consultants, or as the modelling specialist within a team of industry experts. Part of the attraction is that all projects and roles are different, and you’ll find yourself in challenging client-facing situations from a very early stage in your career. You’ll have the opportunity to create your own career path- whether that’s focussing on a particular industry, or choosing to specialise in business skills (including business modelling, benefits realisation, customer analytics etc) or technical skills (including R, SQL, Python etc).

Training is provided for this role as part of the IBM Consulting by Degrees graduate programme, as well as specific technical training for Strategic Analytics Consultants.
