IBM launches UK Community Grants programme

The UK Community Grants programme is designed to support the 3,000+ IBM employees and the 150+ IBM retirees who have already registered as volunteers for the on demand community programme. The scheme provides money or IBM products to eligible community organisations and schools where IBM employees and retirees are actively volunteering, and in support of specific projects. Eligible schools and charities may also access Technology discounts.

If you would like to apply for a On Demand Community Grant please check that your request meets the eligibility criteria for the programme. Then simply complete the appropriate application form, print it out and send with the necessary accompanying documents, to your UK Community Relations Manager, Mark Wakefield.

Volunteers are welcome to request Grants at any time of the year. Request approvals, equipment and cheque ordering will take place on a quarterly basis.

Four steps to success

  1. You can register any volunteering, no matter how small or frequent and whether work related or done in your spare time! (MentorPlace volunteers should also re-register for this programme).
  2. Once registered, update your hours each month.
  3. Check to see if your organisation is eligible for a Community Grant.
  4. Monitor the news section to find out the latest information, such as dates for Grant applications.

Would you like to volunteer?

There are many volunteering opportunities around a location near you as well as more general volunteering opportunities - organisations that are crying out for your support. Please take some time to explore these, and see how you could make a difference to your local community.

Resources

Education

Help teachers understand and use the Internet as a dynamic tool for teaching and learning. Motivate a classroom of youngsters about maths and science. Guide your school board through an effective change process.

Charity

Lead a community-based agency through a technology assessment and planning process so technology can help improve its services. Demonstrate to a local senior centre how free IBM technology can help them explore the Internet.

IBM Support

With Community Grants, we will provide selected IBM technology and equipment free to schools or organisations where you volunteer, or help them get reduced pricing on hardware and software.
