IBM Centre of Excellence, Stavanger
Country General Manager
Morten Thorkildsen, Norway
Norway's offshore industry is considered a global leader. Because of this, IBM has established a Centre of Excellence in Stavanger to develop solutions for the oil and gas industry.
Realizing enormous profits in the oil and gas industry
Access to data from millions of measuring points on equipment and assets, such as pumps, valves, wells, etc, can realize NOK 300 billion over the next ten years according to a report from OLF. And this is the basis of our work in IBM’s Chemicals and Petroleum hub in Stavanger.
Work smarter
Access to real-time data makes it possible for the industry to work smarter, across disciplines, companies and locations. Experts can gain access to the same information in real-time, regardless of location. Faster, better and safer decisions can be made with great impact on the recovery of oil and gas reserves, and lead to more optimized and efficient operations.
Integrating technology, organisation, and people
As such, IT solutions play a decisive role in securing important socio-economic values by realising the potential in ongoing innovation projects. Integration between technology, organisation and people is what will ensure profitability and competitiveness.
Quadrupled staffing in Stavanger
Since establishing our Stavanger Centre of Excellence for Chemicals & Petroleum in December 2006, we have quadrupled our local staffing and entered into long-term cooperation agreements with key players such as Statoil, NTNU and many others.
One of our joint key projects thus far has been the TAIL Project. Read about TAIL IO
We have only just begun to explore the possibilities. The future lies ahead of us.
