Ton Engbersen
Leader Best of Blue Innovation team EMEA, Research Scientist
Dr. Ton Engbersen is currently Leader of the Strategic Innovation Team in IBM Europe, injecting innovation in SO. Before he was manager of the Server Technology Research department at IBM Zurich Research Laboratory, Switzerland and responsible for research spanning a wide area of topics, from Message brokering software, IO technology for Server systems, server chip development, to convergence- and performance evaluation of Data Center interconnects. Earlier, he led the IBM Communications Research group in the IBM Watson Research center in Hawthorne, New York for 2 years. There he was responsible for the development of an IBM Router product and the initial Research which led to MPLS - the major protocol used today by Telecommunication companies to manage Internet traffic world wide. In the late 1980ies he was inventor and manager of IBM's communication switching technology development in the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory, where he started his career in 1983. Ton holds an EE degree from Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands and a Ph.D. from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich.
He is a member of the IBM Academy of Technology since 1994, served on the Academy governance body from 1998 until 2002 and holds over 25 patents.
