Peter Evans
Vice President Marketing, IBM Internet Security Systems
Peter Evans serves as vice president of marketing for IBM Internet Security Systems. With more than eighteen years of telecommunications and enterprise security experience, Evans is responsible for defining and executing the company’s worldwide corporate marketing strategy.
Prior to joining IBM Internet Security Systems, Evans served as chief marketing officer and vice president of business development for AirDefense, an Atlanta-based wireless-LAN Intrusion Detection and Prevention company. Before his tenure at AirDefense, Evans served as chief executive officer and chairman of the board for Optovation. Evans led the effort to evolve the company from a pre-beta solution to a fully operational enterprise that resulted in its acquisition in August 2003.
Additionally, Evans served as senior vice president of marketing and product management with ONI systems. He led the company through growth and customer acquisition and development of channel partnerships. ONI was subsequently acquired in 2002 by Ciena Corporation. Previously, Evans spent 13 years at Nortel networks serving in various senior executive roles in sales, marketing and product line management. Over the course of his tenure with Nortel, Evans was instrumental in the launch of SS7 networking and voice services, long distance voice and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), high speed access and local network data solutions, and metro optical networking and optical Ethernet.
Peter Evans is a frequent keynote speaker at leading industry events, such as VON, RSA and the Gartner IT Security Summits, as well as with major business and trade media, and on national broadcast news.
Evans holds bachelor’s degrees in applied mathematics and computer science from Queen's University, Ontario, Canada. He also holds a master’s of business administration from York University in Toronto.
