Prof. Dr. Paul Gemmel Ghent University, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and Vlerick, Leuven Gent Management School
Paul Gemmel (°1966) is professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business administration of the Ghent University and at the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School, both located in Belgium. He holds a doctoral degree in Business Economics His research is in the area of service (operations) management and more particularly hospital (operations) management. His PhD. dealt with admission scheduling in acute care hospitals. In preparing his doctoral degree, he spent one year at the College of Business of the Arizona State University, Tempe, U.S. (1992-1993).
He lectures on subjects such as healthcare management in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and services management in the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, both at the Ghent University .
At the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School, he worked with several Belgian Hospitals in a benchmarking and research project, called MINOZ (1997-2007).
He has worked with physicians, bank managers, facility service managers, public sector managers, after-sales services managers in different projects and/or programs at the University as well as a the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School.
Paul Gemmel has published in international journals such as the International Journal of Services Industry Management, International Journal of Management Reviews and the International Journal of Operations and Productions Management. He is co-editor of the book ‘Services Management: an Integrated Approach’, published by Pearson Education, 2003 (translated in Japanese and Chinese).
