This technical workshop provided deep-dive training on IBM DB2 Version 9.5 for Linux, UNIX and Windows in a classroom setting, hands-on.
Other related technologies, products, and offerings including IBM Data Studio and IBM Balanced Warehouse products were also discussed in this workshop.

Thank you for joining the GTU at the opening of the new IBM Innovation Center (IIC) in Israel.

The center in Israel is part of tens centers worldwide, provide technical assistance and skills transfer to Business Partners, Hi-Tech companies and Academic institutes throughout the application development cycle. In Israel, this center is part of the GTU.

The event was composed of two parallel sessions, on top of the main one – the IIC launching:

A roundtable session for key industry leaders from the Venture Capital community, Academia and Hi-Tech industry. This session discussed topics like IBM's continues investment and support in the ecosystem of startups, business partners, academics and IT professionals.

The parallel session was actually the first IIC technological session, presented IBM Information Management offerings, focusing on Cognos and solidDB. The audience was developers and IT managers from all organizations.

Both sessions ended with an opening ceremony for the new IBM Innovation Center in Israel, cocktail reception and networking.

Lifecycle

One of the GTU missions is to be involved and influence the eco-system in Israel in order to integrate IBM technologies, services and strategy to the Israeli Hi-Tech in an earlier stage. As part of this mission, the GTU is very active among the Israeli VC community.

The Israeli Hi-Tech conference is an annual VC event, attracts worldwide investments players who wish to meet the Israeli innovative Hi-Tech industry and explore potential investment opportunities.

The GTU was a sponsor of this event and had a panelist in a "Strategic Partnerships" session: Dr. Michael Rodeh, VP, Growth Initiative Projects, IBM. IBM had a keynote presentation "IBM in Israel and some thoughts for the future", by Dave Johnson, VP Corporate Development, IBM.

In this event, IBM got the annual IVA award, which presented in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the Israeli hi-tech and VC industries. IBM got the award for its intense focus on developing human capital; its major influence on managerial capacities and professional standards - with implications far beyond the high-tech industry to the entire Israeli business environment.

The attendees got an in-depth look on how to use IBM's Rational and WebSphere tools to define, model, and implement new services, as well as manage those services throughout their lifecycle. They also learned how the IBM Rational tool suite and methods can help to implement a firm foundation for governance and management.

The main knowledge sharing is carried trough the IMA Tech Clusters - communities of mobile & communication industries professionals.

Web 2.0 means different things to different people. It is a combination of technological (meshups, AJAX, blogs, wikis, RSS) and social (social tagging, user created content) aspects. It works on the Web and there is no reason why it can not work in the enterprise.

New IBM technologies and exciting research projects prove that Web 2.0 can work for the business workers and make enterprises much more efficient.

Software development is a business process. Rational recognizes that it takes many different talents to make a development project successful. Every development team has a mix of roles and responsibilities that work toward project success.

Donated to the open source community by IBM in 2001, Eclipse has since grown to be an independent project endorsed by over 100 software companies worldwide. The extremely active Eclipse community means that Eclipse skills will be valuable in the marketplace for many years to come. In the Eclipse Technical Briefing we presented an introduction to Eclipse, the foundation behind it and a little about the platform's architecture.

The IBM offering for telecommunications supports emerging standards such as IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

This session provided the opportunity to increase the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) knowledge and skills. The participants learned how easy it is to build web services with Rational Software Architect. WebSphere Business Integration Modeler was being used to design a business process and then export it to Business Process Execution Language. This session also included demonstrations of other capabilities of the tools that provide strong support for building SOA-based applications.
