National
Science and Engineering Week is an annual celebration of science and its importance to our lives.
Every March, the UK hosts a huge variety of science, engineering and technology
events giving people across the UK the chance to participate in science
activities, experiments and discussions. Each event raises awareness,
appreciation and understanding of science, engineering and technology.
The aim is to involve people across the country in thinking about science and
give them the chance to participate in science activities and experiments and
engage in science discussions in their local area.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of people across the UK take part in National
Science Week events and activities. Events are organised by schools, colleges
and universities, community groups, individuals, and science and technology
corporations such as IBM.
National Science and Engineering Week is coordinated by the British Association for the
Advancement of Science (BA) - an independent membership charity dedicated to
connecting science with people, so that science and its applications become
accessible to all.
The BA aims to promote openness about science in society and to engage and
inspire people directly with science and technology and their implications.
Established in 1831, the BA organises major initiatives across the UK, including
the annual BA Festival of Science, National Science and Engineering Week, programmes of regional
and local events, and an extensive programme for young people in schools and
colleges.
