Sitting within IBM’s Strategy & Change, Business Dynamics Group is the centre of excellence in IBM Global Business Services for analytics and business modelling. An enthusiastic, and diverse group; we perform strategy consulting with an analytical twist working on many of IBM’s largest and most prestigious projects in the UK.

As a Strategy Consultant in Business Dynamics you can expect to work on client projects in roles providing specialist analytics or business modelling support. Project roles (and in fact projects themselves) can last anything from a few weeks to over a year, and can be based at a client site, an IBM location or a combination of both. On projects we usually work as part of a small team; either with other Business Dynamics consultants, or, as the modelling specialist within a team of industry experts and/or business transformation consultants. All projects and roles are different, and this is a large part of the excitement of working in management consulting. What is certain is that the work you are involved in will contain a high degree of analytical content, and you will find yourself in challenging client-facing roles from a very early stage in your career.

Business Dynamics is a high performing group and as such it is not for everyone. We’re looking for high calibre graduates to help solve the complex business problems that our clients face everyday. All our consultants have an analytical background, and we are looking for graduates with similar degrees and experience, such as science, engineering and mathematics. You must be highly numerate with first class analytical skills and have a desire to solve business problems using analytical and modelling approaches. You must be driven, committed and not afraid to take ownership of a project. You must be confident and motivated enough to work as a consultant on a clients’ premises from an early stage in your IBM career and you must be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.

As the work is mainly client based, you will need to be flexible in terms of location and mobility and be prepared to work across the UK and Europe, delivering projects for our major clients.

You will begin your IBM career with our new hire induction program. You will be given training in core consulting skills including including presentation skills, workshop facilitation, structured problem solving and team working skills. As a Business Dynamics consultant you’ll also receive training specific to business modelling including Excel, Access, Spreadsheet Modelling Best Practice and financial analytics. You will be trained to the highest standards in applying analytical rigour to business modelling, and in the essential core consulting skills to be successful in client work.

You will be assigned a Professional Development Manager (PDM) in Foundation. You will put together an individually tailored training programme with your PDM which will include specific technical training that your role requires in addition to any personal development training that you may need including Presenting with Confidence, Influencing Skills for Business etc.

Following this, you will be invited to take an online aptitude test which will measure your logical reasoning. If you are successful, we will then invite you to attend a first round selection day held at our offices in London. At the selection day you will participate in a group exercise, take further numerical and verbal reasoning tests and take a short confirmatory test for the online test you have already taken. You will also be given a presentation to give you more information about our business and the roles on offer. If you are successful in these activities, we will invite you stay for an interview in the afternoon. The next stage in the process is a full day assessment centre, also held at our offices in London. At this, you will participate in a number of individual and group exercises. Further details will be given to you about the centre nearer the time.

Important notes on completing the application form:

For the ‘Education Details’ section of the application form, you must complete the ‘First Study (Bachelor/Diploma)’ part with your current degree details. If you have not already completed your degree at the time of applying, where it asks for ‘Final mark/grade (or interim exams passed)’ please detail your expected degree result based on your results to date. A’levels or equivalent can be entered into the ‘Other education’ and ‘Other achievements’ part of the ‘Education Details’ section.
