Financial Management Consultant

  • - What it involves

    As a Financial Management Consultant working in IBM Global Business Services you will work on client projects either based at a client site or an IBM office. You will work with clients to offer better ways for them to manage their finance, including planning, reporting and budgeting. You will get involved in analysing client data, researching best practice and presenting the results of this to clients to help them plan their next steps. All projects and roles are different, and this is a large part of the excitement of working in financial management consulting. What is certain is that the work you are involved in will contain a high degree of analytical content, and you will find yourself in challenging client-facing roles from a very early stage in your career. Financial Management Consultancy can provide tremendously rewarding career opportunities for individuals with the right set of skills and talents.

  • + What we look for

    Ideally you will be studying a business, finance or accounting degree and have first class analytical skills coupled with a creative and innovative approach to problem solving. You need to have a passion for business and finance, have a high level of integrity and be driven towards pursuing a professional qualification. You must be flexible, have the ability to work in a team environment or on your own, possess excellent communication skills and be trustworthy. You must be confident and motivated enough to work as a consultant on client premises from an early stage in your IBM career. Although the roles will be initially based in London, due to the nature of our work, you must be flexible with regards to travel and working away from home.

  • + Training

    You will begin your IBM career with our new hire induction program. For 2 weeks of your induction, you will participate in a simulated project focussing on client facing and project management skills.

    You will be assigned a Professional Development Manager (PDM) in Foundation. You will put together an individually tailored training programme with your PDM which will include specific training that your role requires, in addition to any personal development training that you may need including Presenting with Confidence, Influencing Skills for Business etc. In addition, we will sponsor you to complete your CIMA professional accountancy examinations.

    Within FM we will also assign you to a “buddy” - someone who has joined IBM fairly recently and can act as a sounding board and support you in an informal way with any questions or queries you may have. On a day to day basis, you will also work closely with your with your project manager at the client site.
