What the role involves

As a Business Specialist, your role will focus on the commercial side of our business - delivering value to our clients and increasing revenue. This graduate role works on a rotational structure, so whilst on the scheme you will have the chance to impact different areas of the business and grow your skills in multiple areas.

Our proactive business professionals are involved in a range of projects with a broad customer set and offerings; working collaboratively to provide solutions that best meet our clients' needs and contribute to their marketplace success. Throughout these different projects your responsibilities could include Project Management, Commercial/Service Management, Business Development, Bid Management, Sales, Business Consultant and Operational Support.

You will grow your career by developing indispensable skills which will be vital in organisational process, market evolution and client connections.

It will be you that understands the key business priorities, process and organisational implications, ensuring our solutions are delivered to our clients satisfactorily – helping them achieve their business growth. Your input could be at any stage of customer engagement, from planning and design through to completion and on-going support. What the role involves

There are two streams of sales roles on the graduate scheme; those that are out in the field, where you’ll be visiting clients and will be the face of our business relationship with them. And there are those that are more office based, where you’ll be talking to our clients, exploring their needs, explaining the benefits of our technology and selling solutions to them.

Field Sales

Responsible for the sale and support of IBM solutions, services, products and offerings, including those from IBM Business Partners, you'll be the face of our business relationship with clients. Specialising by industry, customer set, channel, brand, solution or offering, you'll work collaboratively to provide solutions that best meet our clients' needs and contribute to their marketplace success.

Initially you will work alongside experienced sales teams working with Clients and Business Partners, giving presentations and attending promotional events. Six months after successful completion of IBM Sales School (approximately 18 months after joining) you’ll be expected to take on a sales target of your own and to deliver new business to IBM.

Office Based Sales

As an 'IBM Inside Sales' Representative you will proactively foster relationships across all levels in any organisation from IT Managers through to Executives. You’ll develop an understanding of the customer’s business and agree how IT can add value.

The ability to articulate what IBM sells in terms that are relevant to the customer is essential. You will work with IBM teams and independently, rapidly assuming direct responsibility for maximising new business in a particular industry segment.

While this is predominantly a telephone-sales role, you will work closely with field sales representatives and therefore there will be an element of travel and face-to-face client contact.
