SISI (Say It, Sign It)
SiSi is nothing short of a revolution in communication between the deaf and hearing. Able to translate speech into British Sign Language it uses an avatar (a digital ‘person’) to sign what is being said in a presentation, meeting, television programme or even a voicemail message. Designed specifically for times when a human signer is unavailable it relies on a speech recognition programme.
Thanks to the architecture behind the system, new translation modules can be readily plugged in too, adding to its global potential. Media coverage has been equally international and the RNID has already given SiSi its approval. Further development is needed to bring it into everyday use but, in just 12 weeks, the team responsible has delivered a life changing innovation.
