How Dureal turned Europe greener

Dureal is a division of Univar NV and one of the world's leading independent industrial chemical distributors. It has operations across North America and Europe and generates annual turnover of more than 6 billion USD worldwide.

Dureal is a unique and complete services provider for the supply and distribution of Adblue, a reaction fluid used to make heavy-duty diesel engines compliant with stringent European emissions limits.

Dureal is an ambitious company with a mission of making Adblue more easily available to its European clients - mostly transport companies and fuel retailers - so they can, in turn, make it more available to their customers.

IBM Global Business Services consultants assisted Dureal through the implementation of the IBM SAP Wholesale Express template and set up a commissionaire structure in the ERP solution. This in order to help Dureal more effectively control its business, reduce administrative workload, better comply with local accounting requirements, adapt to changes in the market, provide a higher level of service to its customers and identify profitable markets.

The biggest challenge was to implement an SAP solution in a very dynamic and rapidly expanding environment: our team faced the task of building a system that could handle the early expansion phase, but was also geared up for the future.

The team for this project was small and thus each person carried great responsibility, while still being able to lean on his/her team members for support. It consisted of three main people: one focusing on purchase and inventory management, one on the sales process and the third with a combined focus on the finance function and project management. After the configuration phase, a fourth consultant was added in the area of logistics to facilitate a smooth go-live. Throughout the process other IBMers were involved as needed, in areas such as prototyping, programming and systems installation.
