What makes my job special:
Even within a company like IBM, which is a leader in the technology business, the team spirit, the commitment to your clients and peers, the respect you have for one another.those are the ingredients that allow everyone to reach the next level. Together.
What my job is like:
Data migration is an 'evanescent art' because you are creating programs that will only be used for a short time. And yet they have to be perfect.
I've been doing data migration for many years now, and I still find that when a client decides to implement a new data system, they easily overlook the value of having good migration. They put a lot of focus on the target, and forget the process of getting there. Having a good, strong start is of utmost importance!
What my last project was like:
I was working on a complex project, and the deadlines were coming down very fast. It was like participating in an Iron Man competition, except that you've been asked to run, swim and bike at the same time! It was an inspiring and stimulating experience and has had a very positive impact on my development and my career in general.
One of my key memories:
A month ago, we had a division-wide 'outdoor event': we got the opportunity to climb up trees.
It was a lot of fun to discover that some of the people I work with every day - people I always see in a suit and tie - had the audacity to do some really crazy things I wouldn't even dare to think about!
My word to new consultants:
Take advantage of the many opportunities offered within IBM Global Business Services: to work on projects large and small, to work abroad, to work alongside people from different companies and cultures, to switch from a technical position into management. Here, growth is the only constant. |
