What makes my job special:
At IBM Global Business Services I found the perfect work-life balance; I can pursue my career without neglecting my family.
I still go to the office every day. But I have the flexibility to pick up my kids from school in the afternoon and then work from home in the evenings.
I put my kids to bed, I check my e-mail again - I've got my finger on the pulse in both places.
What my job is like:
I'm an expert in Supply Chain Management, which is the area that I started in at IBM. Some of my team members realized, when I was working for customers, that I seemed good at Business Development - so that's what I'm doing now! Looking for opportunities and seizing them.
One thing I love about the teamwork at IBM is that you support other people (and their careers), and they support you.
What I'm working on now:
I started working on a project for Dutch Rail to create integrated control rooms. We already did a business analysis and we made a proposal that was just approved.
I am also working on a project for a Dutch airline to improve turnaround times of an aircraft.
I've also decided to pursue some courses in Project Management and Sales in order to bolster my confidence in my new position. IBM is very supportive of ongoing education.
One of my key memories:
I was working for Schiphol Airport, on the client side. When the team from IBM Global Business Services came in, they had so much energy and such innovative ideas. I was really impressed! So after a while, I realized that I wanted to be part of this great team.
My word to new consultants:
Enjoy the flexibility that IBM offers: working from home, from the client's site or from the office, you get to work on diverse and really challenging projects - and that makes it truly interesting. |
