Babouschka van Bilsen represents IBM at the Young Professional of the Year Awards!

After two exciting rounds of elevator pitches, Babouschka van Bilsen was voted IBM's Young Professional of the Year 2011! In her new role, she will represent IBM in the ICA Young Professional of the Year Awards from March to May.
Of course we congratulate all contestants, since they stood out in such a way that their management decided to nominate them for the award!
Last Friday, March 4th, Babouschka participated in the first part of the national YPY Awards. From April 1st (no joke) onwards we will have the opportunity to vote for Babouschka as much as possible on http://www.youngprofessionaloftheyear.nl (link resides outside of ibm.com)
In the meantime, Babouschka has already earned her first mention in the media on NuZakelijk.nl (link resides outside of ibm.com). Have a look!
The YIBM promotion/support team is currently setting up a campaign strategy to deliver Babouschka as much votes as possible.

      Babouschka: Good luck!

    • + iCity – February 2011

      iCity groot succes

    • + Race of the classics – October 2010

Race of the Classics for Young Professionals 2010 – Defending the title….

This year's edition of the Race of the Classics was held from October 19th until October 24th. The Race of the Classics for Young Professionals is a sailing race with classic (semi) tall ships, where young professionals of various Dutch companies strive to become first in a race from Rotterdam to the United Kingdom. Of course IBM - as last years defending champion - participated with a team of it's most talented and enthusiastic sailors. Together with 23 other teams, the goal was set to reach Ipswich in the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, due to bad weather, wind and currents, Ipswich was never to be seen and we had to set sail to beautiful Den Helder. This meant that our stomachs were to be thoroughly tested on a rather stormy North Sea. With winds in excess of 7 Bft. and waves higher than 4 meters, only a lucky few didn't become sick.

After passing the locks at Den Oever in more calm water, the Zephyr (IBM's ship) set sail for direction Lelystad. Halfway the anchor was dropped and the crew prepared for what resulted in a great and memorable IJsselmeerparty. On Sunday, team IBM left Lelystad for Amsterdam. There the team was awaited by IBM executives Harry van Dorenmalen and Sander van Dedem. A great week of sailing was concluded by a nice meal and (again) a great party at Restaurant Fifteen.

    • + Young IBM meets Young Aegon - September 2010

In the spirit of this year’s Young IBM theme – Let’s Play Outside – we were looking for a partner Young Professional Club to organize an event that would give both companies insight in current strategies.

Earlier this year the board members of both Young IBM and Young Aegon met and found two topics that were shared by both companies. Aegon had recently introduced flex working; a way of working IBM started many years ago, but saw evolving over time due to the introduction of new technologies and changes in business culture. So IBM would present its way of handling flex working to Aegon. On the other hand Aegon’s campaign “Aegon Fans – How to turn your clients into fans” – seemed a perfect topic. IBM would learn from one of its own clients how they in turn handle their clients.

So, on Friday September 3rd, 40 Young Professionals of both companies met at the Aegon Head Quarters in The Hague for an interactive meeting with speakers of both companies. Rien Brus of Aegon shared some interesting references and studies concerning client relationship management. Clients seem to remember only a few moments of their customer experience, the lows, the highs and the end. Afterwards Liselore Ammerlaan and Ronald Velten of IBM explained that flex working is more than working time and place independently. It triggers new flows of information through the use of collaboration tools, therefore new rules and business etiquette apply of which one should be aware.

After these sessions we concluded the afternoon with a dinner and drinks at the new dining facilities overlooking Aegon square. Experiences and activities of both companies’ Young Professionals were exchanged, and there was plenty of opportunity for networking. Looking back this event was a great success and next year we will repeat our exchange and welcome Young Aegon at the IBM Head Quarters in Amsterdam.

      Thank you Aegon!

    • + Young IBM Ski trip - April 2010

Young IBM Ski Trip Alpe d’Huez

On friday the 16th of April, 28 Young IBM’ers drove down to Oz en Oisans in the French Alps. Some choose to go by car and spend the night comfortably in a hotel, others kicked back in the bus watching movies and eating candy. Just like the old times.

Saturday morning we all met down in the village, getting ready to hit the slopes, renting boards, handing out ski passes, eating breakfast, putting on sunscreen, stretching, you name it. We were ready to go! The great thing about skiing in the spring is the sunny weather. The snow was white, the sky was blue and some people were a little too enthusiastic getting a tan. At night it was time to party. We got twisted in the Grotte du Yeti, with the life band!

Even though it was April, on Sunday we got some fresh powder. And again it was a great skiing day. That night some of us decided to go party in another village down the mountain, but obviously it was off season and there were no taxi’s to get back home. So they found some creative ways to spend the night…

After three days of riding the slopes and socializing at night, fortunately everyone was still in one piece on their way back to Holland. Tired but satisfied and left with great memories and new (IBM) friends.

This was the first time Young IBM went skiing, but definitely not the last! We will see you next year!

Young IBM wins race of the classics for Young Professionals
