IBM University Student Initiative

Welcome to IBM’s University Project initiative. You have just taken the first steps in working with an IBM technical leader on a potential idea for your Undergrad, MSc or PhD project. This site is designed to allow you to make initial contact with an IBM technical leader where you can then gain valuable experience in real life enterprise software development challenges.
Engaging early in your career with IBM allows you to experience the creative and innovative culture at Dublin Software Lab, and establishing mentors and contact through a collaborative, cooperative program. Ideally, and the end of your work or research you would be better placed to apply for opportunities that arise from time to time at IBM.
This web page should be used as a base to find information on the projects where the ideas can be generated from the following areas:

How does the “University Project Ideas” work?

The aim of this initiative is to allow you to consider ideas in the above areas of interest to IBM, along with the names of subject matter experts at the IBM Dublin Lab. We would encourage you to talk with any of the IBM persons listed, after which you may soon find yourself working with a subject matter expert as you grow an idea in to a real project that you can use for your Undergraduate, MSc or PhD project. Feel free to contact one of the sponsors from one of the above teams if you are interesting in working on a project related to that area.  Alternatively, feel free to contact the sponsor if you just want to discuss an idea.

What does it offer you?

By reviewing and contacting one of the people involved with an idea you are taking the first steps in involving IBM with your final year project, you will have the opportunity to work with an IBM subject matter expert on the idea and in turn gain a mentor who can assist you.  At the end of your studies you could also become eligible to apply for new vacancies that arise from time to time in the lab.  The Dublin Software Lab is well established and is involved in a number of exciting projects; you too could soon be working on one of these exciting projects.

Where to start? First of all you need to pick an area within the Dublin Software Lab that is of interest to you, then contact the IBM person listed beside the area. The next step is to work with the IBM contact on developing the idea that is both beneficial to you and to IBM as part of your Degree, MSc or PhD projects with your university.
