Extreme Blue at IBM isn’t your average summer placement. It’s 12 weeks of intense creative thinking.

IBM Ireland Lab are seeking 12 top students to participate in Extreme Blue 2013. Extreme Blue at IBM isn’t your average summer placement. It’s 12 weeks of intense creative thinking working on an innovative technology project. Work in a small team of students, tackle a real business problem, develop an idea to solve it, turn the idea into a real product…and finally showcase it to IBM’s executives, business partners and clients.

We are looking for 11 technical students and 1 business student. 8 students will be located at IBM’s Development Lab in Dublin (7 technical & 1 business student). 4 students will be located at IBM’s Development Lab in Cork (4 technical students).

After all, where else could you do all this?

Business Roles

You’ll be the one managing the project, keeping the team on schedule and meeting targets and objectives. That’ll involve dealing directly with clients, determining the features your solution will need and putting together a watertight business case. To be considered for a business role, students must be in a least 3rd year of a business type degree, have excellent leadership, communication, planning and teamwork skills.

Technology Roles

You’ll be part of the team that designs, architects, develops and tests an innovative new product for your client. You’ll work with some true technological geniuses here, too – which will give you the chance to expand your own skills. To be considered for technology roles, students should be in at least 3rd year of a technical degree, have excellent analytical, problem solving, communication and teamwork skills along with: Demonstrated experience in Java and/or C++; Web 2.0 Technologies eg AJAX, Javascript, XML, Dojo etc; Relational database skills eg MS SQL/Oracle/DB2; OS skills - Linux, Windows
