Diversity

is as diverse as its people

We in IBM are welcoming all people to the workplace regardless of factors unrelated to job performance. Today, the notion of diversity goes well beyond differences in nationality. This is evident in IBM's principle, "We are sensitive to the needs of all employees and to the communities in which we operate," as well as Workforce Diversity's all-inclusive theme, "None of us is as strong as all of us."

IBM's definition of diversity includes all human characteristics that make us unique as individuals. It includes everyone and excludes no one. Race, gender, geographic origin, culture, lifestyle, age, disability, economic status, marital status and religion are just some of the characteristics that define us as people.

"Diversity policies lie as close to IBM's core as they have throughout our heritage," says Sam Palmisano, IBM chairman and CEO. "Today we're building a workforce in keeping with the global, diverse marketplace, to better serve our customers and capture a greater share of the on demand opportunity."
