Stuttgart, Chennai (Indien), Armonk (New York), Shanghai (China), 26.02.2009: IBM (NYSE: IBM) gibt neue wichtige Programmpunkte der System z Academic Initiative bekannt. Das Programm soll Studenten weltweit auf die Karrierechancen im Bereich des Enterprise System Computing aufmerksam machen.
- Ungefähr 550 Schulen und Universitäten weltweit bieten gemeinsam mit IBM eine Ausbildung im Bereich Mainframe - IBM System z Enterprise Server - an. Darunter ist auch eine der größten und renommiertesten Universitäten Indiens: Die Anna University in Chennai bietet als erste Universität weltweit einen „Master in Technology“ mit einer Spezialisierung in Mainframe-Technologie an. Zudem hat die Anna University ein neues System z installiert, auf dem z/OS und Linux laufen. Das System entlastet das Rechenzentrum der Universität und ermöglicht gleichzeitig den Studenten einen direkten Zugang zur IT-Technologie der Universität.
- Weltweit haben mehr als 1.000 Studenten aus Brasilien, Großbritannien, Australien, den Vereinigten Staaten, Kanada und China Preise beim IBM Student Mainframe Contest gewonnen. In den USA bewältigten etwa 900 Studenten erfolgreich Fragen und Aufgaben zur Datenverarbeitung in unterschiedlichen Schwierigkeitsstufen. In China gewannen mehrere Teams der University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, der Peking University und der South China University of Technology Preise für Projekte im Bereich Enterprise Server.
- IBM kündigte die aktuellen Gewinner des „Destination z“-Stipendienprogramms an, das Mittel für Kurse bereitstellt, in denen Studenten technische Kenntnisse im Bereich IBM Enterprise Server erwerben können.
- Ebenfalls in den USA können Schulen und Universitäten, die sich für das IBM System z Academic Initiative Programm registriert haben, Zugang zu aktuellen Software-Anwendungen für den Mainframe von Firmen wie beispielsweise CA oder PathPoint Software beantragen.
Corporate Training Programme für IBM Enterprise Server
Zusätzlich zu den Bemühungen im akademischen Umfeld hat IBM dazu beigetragen, Unternehmen, die den Mainframe nutzen, in Kontakt mit Professoren zu bringen, die die Mainframe-Technologie lehren. Studenten, die im Bereich IBM Enterprise Systems ausgebildet werden, können zudem Kontakt zu den IT- und Personalabteilungen großer Unternehmen knüpfen.
System z Community-Angebote erleichtern Studenten den Zugang zu Jobangeboten
Um die Bekanntheit des System z zu fördern und Studenten untereinander zu vernetzen, hat IBM ein Profil für System z (keyword: systemz mainframe) bei Facebook angelegt und es mit Hunderten von System z-Freunden aus großen Unternehmen, von Universitäten, mit Mainframe-Fans und anderen verlinkt. Auf Facebook können Studenten auch der Community „System z on Campus“ beitreten, in der sie Termine für Mainframe-Veranstaltungen an Universitäten sowie Informationen über Weiterbildung, Verkaufsförderung oder Karrieremöglichkeiten rund um das IBM System z finden. Der „Master the Mainframe“-Contest
2008 nahmen mehr als 1.876 Studenten aus 325 Schulen und Universitäten in den USA und Kanada am “Master the Mainframe”-Contest teil. Um das starke Interesse der Studenten zu unterstützen, ermöglichte IBM den Studenten den Zugang zum aktuellen IBM System z10 Mainframe, der im IBM Innovation Center in Dallas, Texas, steht. Teilnehmer des Wettbewerbs konnten auf dieselben High-Performance-Computing-Ressourcen zurückgreifen, die auch die Independent Software Vendors von IBM weltweit nutzen, um ihre Geschäftsanwendungen für ihre wichtigsten Kunden zu portieren und bereitzuhalten. Seit seinem Beginn im Jahr 2005 hat der IBM Mainframe-Wettbewerb mehr als 14.000 Studenten angezogen.

IBM Academic Program for System z Enterprise Server Skills Now Deployed at Approximately 550 Schools Worldwide
IBM Recognizes Thousands of Students With Awards and Access to Enterprise Software to Build Critical IT Skills
CHENNAI, INDIA and ARMONK, NY and SHANGHAI, CHINA: IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced major milestones from its System z Academic Initiative Program to expose students around the world to the vast career opportunities currently available in enterprise systems computing. Today's news includes:
- Approximately 550 schools worldwide have now joined IBM to offer coursework in the IBM System z enterprise servers. Most notably, one of India's largest and most prestigious universities -- Anna University (based in Chennai) -- becomes one of the world's first educational organizations to offer a Master in Technology program with a Mainframe Technology specialization. At the same time, Anna University has also installed a new System z running z/OS and Linux to support university workloads while offering direct student access to the university's technology engine.
- Around the world, more than 1,000 students from Brazil, United Kingdom, Australia, United States, Canada and China won prizes through the IBM student mainframe contests. In the United States and Canada, approximately 900 students advanced through progressively difficult computing questions and challenges. And in China, multiple teams from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Peking University and South China University of Technology won prizes for enterprise server projects.
- IBM announced the latest winners of its "Destination z" Scholarship program, which provides funding for educational courses to help students build technical skills for IBM enterprise servers.
- Also in the United States, schools registered with the IBM System z Academic Initiative Program can request access to the industry's latest mainframe software applications from leading and emerging companies, such as CA and PathPoint Software.
Corporate Training Programs for IBM Enterprise Servers Thrive In addition to academic relationships, IBM has helped connect businesses that use mainframes with professors who teach the technology. Students learning IBM enterprise systems are getting opportunities with leading banks, such as Citigroup.

About Master the Mainframe Contest In 2008, more than 1,876 students from 325 schools across the U.S. and Canada competed in the Master the Mainframe Contest, marking the largest turnout ever. To support the strong student interest, IBM provided access to the most current IBM System z10 mainframe hosted at the IBM Innovation Center in Dallas, TX. Student contestants accessed the same high performance computing resources that IBM's worldwide independent software vendors currently use to port and maintain their business applications for top clients.
Since its inception in 2005, the IBM student mainframe contests have attracted more than 14,000 student entries for thousands of prizes consisting of XBox 360s, Nintendo Wiis, iPods, pre-paid debit cards, trips to mainframe plants, etc. For 2008, the top five winners of the IBM Master the Mainframe Contest in North America include:
