Stuttgart, 20. Oktober 2008: IBM (NYSE: IBM) kündigt an, dass der SAN Volume Controller, die wichtigste IBM Software zur Speicher-Virtualisierung, künftig auch als Paket für kleine und mittlere Unternehmen, einem schnell wachsenden Segment des Speichermarktes, angeboten wird. (1) Die Software kann Kunden dabei unterstützen, ihr Volumen an Geschäftsdaten effizienter zu verwalten und zu konsolidieren.
Die IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) Software soll dabei helfen, die Speicherauslastung, die Energieeffizienz, die Administrator-Produktivität, die Erreichbarkeit und die Skalierbarkeit kritischer Anwendungen zu verbessern. Sie kann dazu beitragen, die Flexibilität und Reaktionsfähigkeit von IT-Infrastrukturen durch die Bildung konsolidierter virtueller Informationspools deutlich zu verbessern.
Weil das Informationsaufkommen stark wächst, suchen kleine und mittlere Unternehmen nach Möglichkeiten, ihre Kosten zu kontrollieren und gleichzeitig auf die Veränderungen im Geschäftsumfeld eingehen zu können. Die neue IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) Entry Edition kann kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen helfen, dieses Wachstum zu bewältigen, ihre Investitionen im Speicherbereich rentabler zu machen und gleichzeitig den Betrieb zu vereinfachen. Mit der SVC Entry Edition wird eine spezielle Lizenzierung angeboten, die es Unternehmen mit kleineren Kapazitäten ermöglicht, einen preisgünstigen Einstieg in die Speichervirtualisierung zu finden. Die SVC Entry Edition wird vorinstalliert auf einer kostengünstigeren Hardware ausgeliefert und kann später zu jedem Zeitpunkt ohne technische Einschränkungen in das große Lizenzmodell überführt werden. Business Partner, die sich bereits mit SVC auskennen, können also Kunden, die die SVC Entry Edition verwenden wollen, sofort unterstützen. Die SVC Entry Edition wird über die Anzahl der angeschlossenen Festplattenlaufwerke lizenziert. Dadurch können IBM Business Partner Plattenspeicher und die SVC als Paket bündeln und den Kunden so komplette Speicherlösungen anbieten.
IBM mit Rekord-Benchmark bei Speicher-Virtualisierung
Seit der Markteinführung 2003 hat IBM mehr als 14.000 SVC-Engines in über 4.600 SVC-Systemen in Betrieb genommen. Ergänzend zur Ankündigung der SVC Entry Edition gibt IBM bekannt, dass ein neuer Weltrekord beim SPC-(Storage Performance Council-)plattenbasierten Benchmark erreicht wurde. Dieser belegt die hohe Skalierbarkeit von SVC und bestätigt die technologisch starke Rolle von IBM im Bereich Speicher-Virtualisierung mit dem derzeit als schnellstem getesteten System. Das neue Benchmark-Ergebnis übertrifft nicht nur frühere SVC-Messungen, sondern auch Messungen unter Einsatz der neuen IBM platzsparenden Virtual-Disk-Thin-Provisioning-Technologie. (2) Der neue SPC-1 Benchmark unterstützt auf einem IBM DS4700 Laufwerk 274.997,58 SPC-1 IOPS pro Sekunde. (3)
IBM gibt außerdem die Kompabilität von SVC mit dem neuen IBM XIV Storage System, dem IBM System Storage DS5000 und dem IBM System z/VSE bekannt. Der neue Interoperabilitätssupport schließt auch Microsoft Hyper-V, HDS Universal Storage Platform und HP XP20000/XP24000 ein.
Die SVC Entry Edition soll planmäßig ab 21. November erhältlich sein.
IBM Global Financing, der Geschäftsbereich für Vermietung und Leasing der IBM, bietet „Why Wait“ an, einen „No interest no payment for 90 days deferral plan“. Damit sollen eligible Kunden beim Umstieg auf IBM Speichersysteme bis Ende 2008 unterstützt werden. Das Finanzierungsmodell sieht einen Leasingvertrag über 36 Monate zum üblichen Marktpreis vor. Kunden können bei diesem Angebot die neue Hardware installieren und müssen erst nach 90 Tagen mit der Zahlung der 36 monatlichen Raten beginnen. Voraussetzung ist, daß interessierte Anwender das geeignete Equipment bei IBM Global Financing im Angebotszeitraum leasen und das Produkt in den teilnehmenden Ländern bis zum 31. The new benchmark not only beats the previous SVC measurement but does so with IBM’s new Space-Efficient Virtual Disk thin provisioning technology enabled.
