Stuttgart, 16. September 2008: IBM hat zwei IBM System x-Server vorgestellt, die über die neue Sechs-Core Prozessortechnologie von Intel verfügen. Die neuen Server bieten mehr Energieeffizienz, gesteigerte Leistung und verbesserte Virtualisierungsfähigkeiten, um den Bedarf heutiger Rechenzentren zu adressieren.
Die neuen IBM Server mit Sechs-Core Intel-Prozessoren haben bisher vier Benchmarks verbessert:
- Ein 8-Socket System x-Server mit 64-Bit IBM DB2 9.5 auf Red Hat Linux 5.2 war der erste x86 Single-Server, der eine Millionen Transaktionen pro Minute auf einem TPC-C Benchmark erreicht hat
- Der höchste 4-Socket x86-Server TPC-C Benchmark liefert mehr Transaktionen pro Minute als andere 4-Prozessor Server
- IBM zeigt die höchste 4-Prozessorleistung und das günstigste Preis-Leistungsverhältnis auf dem TPC-E Benchmark sowie eines der besten 8-Prozessor-Ergebnisse auf dem Two-Tier SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark.
Basierend auf eX4, der vierten Generation von IBM Chipsets für Intel Prozessorbasierte Server, der X-Architektur, enthalten die neuen Systeme folgende Features:
- System x3950 M2: IBM hat den Hauptspeicher des x3950 verbessert, um Kunden die ganze Bandbreite von Virtualisierungsmöglichkeiten zu bieten. Zusätzlich verfügt das System über eine Mainframe-ähnliche Zuverlässigkeit, eine effizientere Stromversorgung und eine Hauptspeichertechnologie, die bis zu 37 weniger Energie verbraucht.
- System x3850 M2: Mit speziellen Features für mehr Leistung und Effizienz können Kunden eine Vielzahl von komplexen Geschäftsanwendungen wie solche für ERP und Datenbanken auf einem einzelnen Server unterstützen. Das System bietet eine flexible Skalierbarkeit, die es Kunden erlaubt ihr System unkompliziert von vier Sockets auf 16 zu erweitern und damit auch nur für mehr Kapazität zu zahlen, wenn diese benötigt wird.
IBM zählt mit mehr als 60 Prozent Marktanteil im Jahr 2007 bei den 8-Socket Systemen und darüber auch weiterhin zu den wichtigsten Herstellern auf dem skalierbaren High End x86-Markt. Damit hält IBM laut IDC dreimal mehr Marktanteile als der nächste Mitbewerber. IBM ist seit drei Jahren einer der wichtigsten Anbieter des 8-Wege Segments und konnte im zweiten Quartal 2008 ein zweistelliges Markwachstum erzielen. New IBM System Is First to Process 1 Million Transactions per Minute
IBM Unveils New x86 Servers With Latest Six-Core Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processors
LAS VEGAS, NV - 15 Sep 2008: VMworld - IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced two IBM System x servers featuring new six-core processor technology from Intel. The new servers offer exceptional power-efficiency, performance and virtualization capabilities for today's most demanding datacenters.
IBM's new servers running Intel's six-core processors recently topped four benchmarks, including:
The first single x86 server to burst through the 1 million transactions per minute barrier on a TPC-C benchmark. This was achieved with an 8-socket System x server running 64-bit IBM DB2 9.5 on Red Hat Linux® 5.2.
The highest 4-socket x86 server TPC-C benchmark, delivering more transactions per minute than any other 4-processor server.
Highest 4-processor performance and overall best price/performance on the TPC-E benchmark, outpacing the Dell 4-way server in both performance and price/performance.
The world record for 8-processor results on two-tier SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark.
Based on eX4, the fourth generation of IBM's chipset for Intel processor-based servers, X-Architecture, the new systems include the following advantages:
System x3950 M2: IBM has tuned the memory of the x3950 so clients can take full advantage of virtualization on the system with mainframe-like reliability and high efficiency power supplies and memory technology capable of up to 37 percent lower overall power consumption.
System x3850 M2: With special features for fast performance and efficiency, clients can support a large number of demanding business applications like those for ERP and database on a single server. The system offers flexible scalability that allows clients to easily expand their system from 4 sockets to 16, so clients can pay for more capacity only when they need it -- not up front as with other vendors.
IBM continues to dominate the high-end scalable x86 market, defined at 8-socket systems and above, with more than 60 percent share in 2007 -- three times more than its closest competitor, according to IDC. IBM has lead the 8-way space for three years, turning in double digit market growth in 2Q08, and is the market leader in the Intel 4-socket segment, according to IDC. (1)
