IBM stellt Upgrades für Platten- und Bandspeichersysteme vor
Stuttgart, 14. Mai 2008: IBM hat neue Angebote und Upgrades für das Platten- und Bandspeicherportfolio vorgestellt. Zusätzlich wurden neue Lösungskomponenten für das N series-Produktportfolio sowie weitere Virtual Tape-Lösungen und Switch-Angebote angekündigt. Alle Angebote sollen Kunden dabei unterstützen, sich für zukünftige Speicheranforderungen besser vorzubereiten.
Mehr Leistung bei Virtual Tape
IBM hat die nächste Generation der IBM Virtualization Engine TS7530 vorgestellt, die skalierbare Bandvirtualisierungslösungen bei gleichzeitig hoher Leistung bietet, um wachsende Kundenumgebungen zu unterstützen. Die TS7530 ermöglicht es Kunden, Funktionen wie Hardware-Kompression zu integrieren, um ein schnelleres Datenbackup zu fördern. Gleichzeitig erhalten Kunden durch die neue Unterstützung von 1-TB-Drives zusätzliche Plattenkapazität zu niedrigerem Preis pro GB. TS7530 unterstützt ab sofort auch die RAID 6- und System i BRMS-Integration.
Neue Hard- und Software für die N series
IBM hat neue Software- und Hardwareangebote für die N series-Produktreihe vorgestellt:
Die IBM N series Provisioning Manager Software ist für N3000 Express, N3700, die N5000-Serie und die N7000-Serie verfügbar. Diese benutzerfreundliche Anwendung ermöglicht es IT-Administratoren, policy-basierte Automation einzusetzen, um die Zeit für komplexe manuelle Aufgaben zu reduzieren. Sie vereinfacht auch das Storage Provisioning, während gleichzeitig sichergestellt wird, dass dieser Prozess wiederholbar, skalierbar und prüffähig ist, um das Risiko von Datenverlust durch Fehler bei der Speicherkonfiguration zu verringern.
Die neue IBM N series FlexCache Software wurde entwickelt, um komplexe Datenzugangs- und Datenmanagementprobleme zu adressieren. Die Software kann die Leistung in großen Rechenzentren skalieren, den Zugriff von Branch Offices aus beschleunigen und das Management von klassifiziertem Speicher vereinfachen. Die neue Software für N3000 Express, für die N5000 Serie und die N7000 Serie schafft einen flexiblen, horizontal skalierbaren Caching Layer innerhalb der Speicherinfrastruktur, der sich automatisch an wechselnde Auslastungsmuster anpasst, um Engpässe zu vermeiden.
Die neue N Series FlexScale Software mit Performance Acceleration Module ist für die N7000, N5300 und N5600 Anwendungen und Gateway-Systeme in Form einer leistungssteigernden 16-GB-Beschleunigungskarte verfügbar, die vorhandene Investitionen schützen hilft. Dies geschieht durch die Leistungssteigerung von bereits existierenden Systemen oder die Optimierung neuer Systemleistung. Die Software wurde entwickelt, um die Anwendungsleistung, die von N series Speichersystemen unterstützt wird, zu erhöhen.
Neue SAN-Angebote
IBM hat drei neue Switches für kleine und mittelständische Unternehmen vorgestellt: IBM System Storage SAN24B-4, SAN40B-4 und SAN80B-4. Jeder Switch unterstützt durch 8-Gbps-Verbindungsgeschwindigkeit einen schnelleren Datentransfer. Die Switches verfügen über mehr Ports (bis zu 24, 40 und 80 Ports) für eine größere Skalierbarkeit.
IBM hat auch drei neue Switch-Blades für den IBM Total Storage SAN256B Director vorgestellt, die auch bis zu 8-Gbps-Verbindungsgeschwindigkeit unterstützen. IBM System Storage SAN04B-R, ein 4-Port Router, ermöglicht kleinen und mittelständischen Unternehmen durch den Einsatz von Distanzerweiterung über das Internet kosteneffektive Business Continuity-Lösungen. Darüber hinaus hat IBM den "Cisco MDS 9124 Express für IBM System Storage Fabric Switch" vorgestellt, der besonders von IBM Geschäftspartnern, die IBM BladeCenter und System x-Server vertreiben, häufig mitangeboten wird. Further Extends Storage Offerings to Include New Storage Software & Tape Virtualization Upgrades

Unmatched Virtual Tape Performance
IBM announced the next generation of the IBM Virtualization Engine TS7530 which provides high performance and scalable tape virtualization solutions to support growing customer environments.
Open systems tape virtualization clients today are looking to increase performance and lower disk storage. The TS7530 will enable clients to integrate functions like HW compression which support faster backup of data. In addition, with new support for 1TB Drives, clients get additional disk capacity at a lower price per GB. The TS7530 now supports RAID 6 and System i BRMS integration.
New Software for N series
IBM announced new software and hardware offerings for its N series line of products.
IBM N series Provisioning Manager Software is available on the N3000 Express, N3700, N5000 series, N7000 series machines. This easy-to-use application enables IT administrators to use policy-based automation to help reduce the time spent on complex, manual provisioning tasks. Its simplifies storage provisioning while ensuring the provisioning process is repeatable, scalable and auditable to mitigate the risk of data loss due storage configuration errors.
Designed to address some of the most difficult data access and data management problems, the new IBM N series FlexCache Software can scale performance for large compute farms, accelerate access for remote offices and simplify management of tiered storage. This new software for the N3000 Express, N5000 series, N7000 series creates a flexible, horizontally scalable caching layer within the storage infrastructure that automatically adapts to changing usage patterns to eliminate bottlenecks.
The new N series FlexScale software with the Performance Acceleration Module is available on the N7000, N5300 and N5600 appliance and gateway systems as a performance enhancing 16GB accelerator card that helps protect customer investments by providing an economical way to increase performance of existing systems or maximize new system performance. It is designed to maximize application performance supported by N series storage systems.
New SAN Offerings
For small, mid-sized and enterprise customers IBM is announcing three new b-type switches, the IBM System Storage SAN24B-4, SAN40B-4 and SAN80B-4. Each switch supports faster data transfer with 8 Gbps link speeds, key for implementing the right technology today to support future server and storage needs. Less power is needed with faster data transfer speeds as well. The switches have higher port counts (up to 24, 40 and 80 ports) for greater scalability.
IBM announced three new switch blades for the IBM Total Storage SAN256B director which also support up to 8 Gbps link speeds. For SMB customers, the IBM System Storage SAN04B-R, a 4-port router, will enable cost-efficient business continuity solutions using distance-extension over the Internet for SMB customers.
For the channel, IBM announced the Cisco MDS 9124 Express for IBM System Storage Fabric Switch which is preferred by IBM Business Partners who sell IBM BladeCenter and System x servers.
Pricing and Availability
The IBM N series Provisioning Manager Software will be generally available on June 13, 2008 with a starting price of $680.00.
The IBM N series FlexCache Software will be generally available on June 6, 2008 is a no charge feature of N series systems with the NFS protocol license.
The IBM N series FlexScale Software with the Performance Acceleration Module will be generally available on August 8, 2008 with an entry configuration price of $42,200.
The IBM Virtualization Engine TS7530 will be generally available on June 6, 2008 with an entry configuration price of $251,000.
The IBM System Storage SAN24B-4, SAN40B-4 and SAN80B-4 switches will be generally available on May 23, 2008 with the starting price of $5,360.
The Cisco MDS 9124 Express for IBM System Storage Fabric Switch will be generally available on June 13, 2008 with a starting price of $5,830.
All offerings announced today are available either direct from IBM or through IBM Business Partners.
