Stuttgart, 12. Februar 2008: IBM hat neue Produkte und Updates für einen großen Teil des IBM Platten- und Bandspeicherportfolios angekündigt. Die neuen Lösungen erlauben es Kunden, eine effizientere klassifizierte Speicherinfrastruktur zu implementieren, Kosten einzusparen und eine höhere, konzeptionell integrierte Datensicherheit zu erreichen. Zusätzlich bietet IBM neue Archivierungslösungen an, die aktuelle gesetzliche Speichervorgaben unterstützen und über eine IoD (Information on Demand) -fähige Infrastruktur verfügen. Das Angebot richtet sich an ein Kundenspektrum von kleinen und mittelständischen Unternehmen bis hin zu Großkonzernen.
Neue Generation der N series für große Unternehmen
IBM hat die nächste Generation der N7000 series vorgestellt, die sowohl als Appliance als auch als Gateway erhältlich sein wird. Die neuen Modelle N7700 und N7900 ermöglichen eine höhere Skalierbarkeit für den Rechenzentrumsbetrieb in großem Maßstab sowie die Speicherkonsolidierung bei großen Unternehmen mit offenen Systemen sowie bei mittelständischen Kunden. Die neuen Systeme bieten eine hohe Skalierbarkeit mit bis zu 1.176 Terabyte Kapazitätsunterstützung für speicherintensive Anforderungen in Rechenzentren. Die N7000 series ermöglicht es Kunden, SAN- und NAS-Speicheranforderungen auf einem einzigen System zu konsolidieren, das Unterstützung für primäre, nearline und gesetzeskonforme Datenspeicherung und Archivierungsspeicher auf einer Plattform bietet.
Weitere Updates der N series
Die N3300 und N3600 werden bei mittelständischen Kunden der N series nun auch SATA- oder SAS-Laufwerke im Controller unterstützen können, was diesem Kundensegment mehr Flexibilität und Möglichkeiten bietet. Die N3300 verfügt über eine erweiterte Skalierbarkeit von bis zu 68 Terabyte und die N3600 von bis zu 104 Terybyte, was es kleinen und mittelständischen Unternehmen erlaubt, entlang ihres Geschäftswachstums zu skalieren. Zusätzlich wurde bei folgenden Modellen die Kapazität aufgestockt: N5300 (von 168 auf 336 Terabyte), N5600 (von 252 auf 504 Terabyte), N7600 (von 420 auf 840 Terabyte) und N7800 (von 504 auf 1008 Terabyte). Der SnapManager für Office SharePoint-Server von Microsoft wird zukünftig auf allen Systemen der N series verfügbar sein. Dies bietet dem Mittelstand und Großunternehmen eine interessante Branchenlösung im Bereich Datenmanagement.
Data Center Director der nächsten Generation
Das IBM System Storage SAN768B stellt eine Plattform bereit, die sich durch hochleistungsfähige IT- und zukünftige FCoE-(Fibre Channel over Ethernet)-Technologien kommenden IT-Entwicklungsstufen anpasst. Es ist das erste "Director-artige" Produkt, das über Fibre-Channel-Verbindungen Transferraten von 8 Gigabyte pro Sekunde (Gbps) unterstützt, was die Geschwindigkeit beim Datentransfer in Zukunft nahezu verdoppeln kann. SAN768B ist das erste Produkt der Branche, das wirkliche Interoperabilität zwischen Direktoren des b-Typs (Brocade) und solchen des m-Typs (McDATA) in einer 8- oder 10-Gbps-FC- SAN-Infrastuktur unterstützt. Für Nutzer des m-Typs und Großkunden, die ihre Mainframes über FICON-Kanäle betreiben, bietet diese Interoperabilität eine Roadmap für die Expansion ihrer bestehenden FICON-Struktur. Die neue Plattform reduziert Komplexität, Ausfallrisiko und Energieverbrauch mit einer speziellen Skalierbarkeit von bis zu 768 Ports über zwei Domains.
Verbesserte Archivierungs- und Data-Retention-Systeme
Der Bereich IBM System Storage investiert mit der nächsten Generation der IBM System Storage DR550 Version 4.5 auch weiterhin in das Information-Retention-Segment. Durch die erweiterte Nutzung des System Storage Archive Managers (SSAM) für policy-basierten Information-Retention-Betrieb ermöglicht die DR550 eine transparente und automatisierte Bewegung archivierter Daten zwischen verschiedenen Speicherklassen. Dadurch können Kosten eingespart werden, ohne die Sicherheit der archivierten Daten zu gefährden. Das mittlerweile preisgekrönte System ist ab sofort als Maschine verfügbar, die zur Vereinfachung von Setup und Nutzung den IBM Director als Unified Management System unterstützt. Kunden, die Wert auf eine langfristige Sicherung ihrer geschäftskritischen Informationen und die Steuerung des Informationswachstums sowie Compliance legen, können zwischen zwei Modellen der DR550 Version 4.5 wählen: Die DR1 besteht aus einem 25 U-Einheiten großen Rack, ist vorintegriert und eignet sich besonders für mittelständische Kunden. Die DR2 wurde speziell für Großunternehmen entwickelt und ist in einem größeren 36 U-Einheiten-Rack untergebracht. Die DR2 bietet Single-oder Dual-Note-Konfigurationsoptionen für höhere Verfügbarkeit und Skalierbarkeit.
Festplattensysteme für mittelständische Telekommunikationskunden
IBM hat das neue NEBS-konforme IBM System Storage DS3300 DC-Modell 32T vorgestellt, das durch die Vermeidung von "Single Points of Failures" und Hot-Swappable-Komponenten seine besonders hohe Verfügbarkeit erreicht. die auch bei mittelständischen Telekommunikationsfirmen gefordert wird. Diese neuen Features erlauben es Telekommunikationsanbietern, Optionen von gewöhnlicher Telefonie bis hin zu IPTV (Internet Protocol Television), VoD (video on demand), und IMS (IP multimedia subsystems) ihren Kunden anzubieten.
Die DS3300 DC fügt sich nahtlos in bereits bestehende IP-Netzwerke ein und vermeidet durch iSCSI-Verbindungsfähigkeit eine zeitverzögerte Übertragung. Zusätzlich verfügt das Modell über eine dualen iSCSI Controllereinfassung mit 12 Festplattenschächten. Die DS3300 verfügt zudem über zwei redundante Gleichstromzugänge und kann auch außerhalb des Unternehmensrechenzentrums betrieben werden. Um den wachsenden Bedarf an Speicherkapazität und Skalierbarkeit zu bedienen, werden drei EXP3000-Erweiterungseinheiten auch bis zu 48 SAS- und/oder SATA-Festplatten unterstützen können.
Neue Laufwerke für LTO (Linear Tape-Open)
IBM hat die nächste Generation von LTO (Linear Tape-Open)-Bandlaufwerken vorgestellt. Die neuen Laufwerke haben den Baufaktor "half height" und wurden speziell für IBM System Storage TS3100 und TS3200 Tape Library Express-Modelle entwickelt.
Die Laufwerke eignen sich für Backupmanagement, das Speichern, Wiederherstellen und die Archivierung von Daten in kleinen und mittelständischen Unternehmen. Zusätzlich bieten sie einen höheren Schutz vor physischen Verlust der Kassette sowie Diebstahl. Beide wurden entwickelt, um höhere Kapazität, mehr Leistung und verbesserte Technologie für mittelständische Open System-Umgebungen anzubieten.
IBM ist das erste Unternehmen in der Speicherbranche, das Ultrium 4 Half-High SAS halbhohe Bandlaufwerke auf automatisiertem Einstiegslevel anbietet, um die Leistung der Bandtechnologie in den nächsten Jahren kontinuierlich zu steigern. Mittelständische Kunden können ihre Daten mit Hilfe des IBM Encryption Key Managers verschlüsseln und verwalten, ohne auf zusätzliche Anwendungen zurückgreifen zu müssen.

Die neue DR550 DR1 wird voraussichtlich ab dem 29. Februar 2008 zum Einstiegskonfigurationspreis von 26.000 US-Dollar erhältlich sein. DR550 DR2 wird ebenfalls ab dem 29. Februar 2008 voraussichtlich verfügbar sein und mit der Einstiegskonfiguration 73.000 US-Dollar kosten.
Das IBM System Storage DS3300 DC wird voraussichtlich ab dem 29. Februar 2008 zum Einstiegskonfigurationspreis von 9.495 US-Dollar verfügbar sein.
Die IBM System Storage TS3100 Tape Library Express und IBM System Storage TS3200 Tape Library Express werden voraussichtlich ab dem 14. März 2008 verfügbar sein und mit der Einstiegskonfiguration 8.300 US-Dollar kosten.
IBM System Storage SAN768B wird voraussichtlich ab dem 22. Februar 2008 zum Einstiegskonfigurationspreis von 390.000 US-Dollar verfügbar sein.

IBM INTRODUCES NEXT GENERATION STORAGE OFFERINGS
First to Market Innovations, Enhancements and New Products Enable Businesses to Simplify and Maximize Resources
ARMONK, NY – 12 February 2008: IBM today announced new first-to-market information infrastructure platform offerings and enhancements across a broad range of its disk and tape storage portfolio. Targeting clients that range from small and medium businesses (SMB) to large enterprises, the new solutions allow customers to implement a more efficient tiered storage infrastructure and achieve improved cost savings, integrated data security, and enhanced archival solutions to meet compliance requirements and have an infrastructure that delivers information on demand.

Next Generation N series for Large Enterprises
IBM announced the next generation of the N7000 series as both an appliance and gateway. The new N7700 and N7900 models will allow for improved scalability for large scale data center operations as well as storage consolidation for large open system enterprises and mid-market clients. The new systems offer massive scalability with support up to 1,176 Terabytes of raw capacity for large data center storage needs. The N7000 series enables customers to consolidate SAN and NAS storage needs to a single system that can provide support for primary, near-line, regulatory compliant data retention and archival storage all in single platform.
Further enhancements for N series include:
- For the SMB N series client, the N3300 and N3600 can now support SATA or SAS drives in the controller, giving midrange clients more flexibility and options;
- The N3300 has the increased scalability of 68TB and the N3600 to 104TB, allowing small and medium businesses to scale along with their growth;
- Additional capacity has been added to the N5300 (from 168 to 336 TB), N5600 (from 252 to 504 TB), N7600 (from 420 to 840 TB) and the N7800 (from 504 to 1008 TB); and
- SnapManager for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is now available on all N series systems, providing SMB and large enterprises a comprehensive unmatched industry solution for data management.
Next Generation Data Center Director
The IBM System Storage SAN768B establishes a platform for evolutionary growth with high performance computing and future Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) technologies. It is the first director-class product to support 8 Gigabit per second (Gbps) data transfer rates over Fibre Channel (FC) links, which enables a 100 percent improvement in data transfer speed over the previous generation. The SAN768B is the first product in the industry to support true interoperability between b-type (Brocade) and m-type (McDATA) directors in an 8 and 10 Gbps global enterprise FC SAN infrastructure. For m-type and other large enterprise clients that run mainframes with FICON channels, this interoperability provides a roadmap for growth of their existing FICON fabrics. This new technology platform reduces complexity, risk and power consumption with featured scalability of up to 768 ports across two domains.
Enhanced Archive and Data Retention Systems
IBM System Storage continues to invest in the information retention space with the next generation IBM System Storage DR550 v4.5. By leveraging System Storage Archive Manager (SSAM) for policy-based information retention, the DR550 enables the transparent and automated movement of archived data between storage tiers for cost savings without compromising the security of archived data. The award winning system is now available as a single machine for enhanced for ease of customer setup and use, leveraging IBM Director as the unified management system. Clients who are looking to protect business critical information for long term security as well as manage information growth and compliance can choose from two models of the DR550 v4.5: DR1 and DR2. The DR1 is a 25U tall rack, pre-integrated and ideal for mid-market clients. The DR2 is built for large enterprises, packaged in a bigger 36U tall rack and offering single or dual-node configuration options for higher availability and scalability.
Disk Systems Maximized for SMB Telco
IBM announced the new NEBS compliant IBM System Storage DS3300 DC power model 32T which is designed with no single point of failure for high availability and hot swappable redundant components for high reliability in the SMB telecommunications industry. The new features enable telecommunications service providers to deliver everything from basic voice telephony to Internet Protocol television (IPTV), video on demand (VoD), IP multimedia subsystems (IMS) and security.
The DS3300 DC easily integrates into existing IP networks with no distance limitations through iSCSI connectivity, including a dual iSCSI controller enclosure with 12 disk drive bays. The DS3300 has dual redundant DC power supplies and can go virtually anywhere beyond the corporate data center including remote locations. To meet the growing demand for storage capacity and scalability, three EXP3000 units are also available for support of up to 48 SAS and or SATA disks.
New Drives for Linear Tape-Open
IBM introduced the latest generation of the Linear Tape-Open (LTO) tape drive in a half height factor for the IBM System Storage TS3100 and TS3200 Tape Library Express Models, offering savings for cost and space conscious businesses.
The drives are optimal for handling backup, saving, restoring and archiving data in the SMB environments, and provide higher levels of security against physical cartridge loss and theft. Both are designed to offer high capacity, enhanced performance and technology for the midrange open system environment.
IBM is the first company in the storage industry to offer Ultrium 4 Half-High SAS half-high tape drives in entry automation, enhancing tape performance over the previous generation. SMB customers can encrypt and manage data with the industry leading IBM Encryption Key Manager, without the need for additional appliances.
Pricing and Availability
The new N7700 and the N7900 will be generally available (GA) worldwide on April 18, 2008. The N7700 is available with a starting configuration price of $125,000.
