Linux on System z Development

Our team of young Linux programmers and experienced IBMers successfully combines Linux expertise and business experience. The development team is responsible for design and development for Linux on System z. We work closely with several global IBM development teams to make Linux benefit from virtualization technology. Our areas of expertise include the Linux kernel, I/O attachments, and System z specific tools. It also includes System z specific backends for various components, such as libraries, binutils, and debugging tools.

As official maintainers of the System z port of the Linux kernel, glibc, klibc, strace, and ltrace we are recognized contributors to both architecture-specific code and common code by our peers in the open source community. We are also responsible for problem determination and supplying bug fixes to our worldwide System z customers. In this capacity we work closely together with our Linux distribution partners. In addition to our regular service team, we have established a dedicated Lab-Based Services team.

Our development contributions focus on network attachments as well as the GNU toolchain on IBM System z, that is, compiler, debugger, and performance tools. We are part of the Linux Technology Center.
